Inequality In Schools: Case Study

The podcast focused on the inequality in segregated school districts due to a lack of funding and resources. It reflects on the idea of integrating school districts by giving students in schools with lower accreditation the opportunity to attend schools with better resources. The podcast presents the extreme fear and opposition possessed by parents in the white school district, Francis Howell, when they realized that the students from Normandy were going to be allowed to attend the same school as their children. In addition, listeners are given the opportunity to reflect on the positive opportunities and beneficial outcomes available to the Normandy students who chose to stay at Francis Howell. Blatant racism is direct and intentional. It can take the form of someone believing and stating that one race or group lacks ability. The podcast included segments of what the parents of Francis Howell students were saying in relation to the Normandy kids being allowed at their children’s school. One parent was concerned that having the Normandy kids in her district would ruin the reputation and testing scores of Francis Howell. In this case it is evident that she assumes that the mostly black Normandy school district has mostly unintelligent students and is blatant in explain this. This means that she is assuming that because they are of a lower social class and are black they will not be able to succeed in the more structured curriculum. Another mother posed the question of whether or not there would be metal detectors in the school now that there would be Normandy school kids (mostly black) in the school. She is assuming that these kids will be dangerous and must be watched and is therefore exhibiting blatant racism by assuming that one race is more likely to be violent than
