US Constitution's Zip Code Analysis

Should one’s zip code determine their access to the American dream? Is the US constitution’s “equal protection” something society knows in theory but has yet to implement within all school systems? The Improvement of public education is something that has been fought, challenged, and protected for many years and no child’s outcome/opportunity of education should be determined by the neighborhood in which they grew up, rather than his or her abilities. The No Child Left behind Act of 2001 (NCLB) is the current policy set in place of President Lyndon Johnson’s Elementary and Secondary Act of 1965 (ESEA), whose purpose was to raise achievement and close achievement gaps. However, some issues have been brought up with the NCLB Act and President Obama has been working to change some of the policies within the educational systems.
One of the biggest problems in the US educational systems is the inadequate condition of many schools located in economically disadvantaged areas (Morgan, 2012). Inequalities between disadvantaged and other populations is a significant barrier for progress towards higher education, academic success, and improvement of classes. They are the individuals that have a lack of social and economic mobility: generations that have been continuously stuck in the same economic and social class and unable to move up. They are the generations of not attending college, inconsistent job stability, and lack of relocating to higher-income neighborhoods. They are the minority students and the students with disabilities that are not given proper attention needed to succeed.
