Inequality Between Men And Women In The 1800s

Women in England in the 1800's, which is when Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice is set illustrated the importance of women marriage which maybe is difficult to comprehend. The world in “Pride and Prejudice” novel is difficult to understand; as they world have changed a lot since the 18th century. We women now have more power than we had in the past. In Today’s world, we can choose to decide whether we want to marry or not regarding the social aspects. In Austin’s time women didn’t have as much freedom. They were binned with the society as society acceptance played a large role in their lives. The book now allows us to differentiate how much we as a society have changed. The novel Pride and Prejudice illustrated how inequality between men and women, an importance of marriage, and their actions affected their reputation within the society.

This was the set society had forced on women. In pride and Prejudice Mrs. Bennet Elizabeth’s mother forced her to get married to marry Mr. Collins because he was about to inherit an estate. Mrs. Bennet was more into the thought that the more wealthy the person is the more happiness he can give to her daughters but Elizabeth wasn’t pleased by her mother’s thought and he refuses the proposal as she believes that love is more important than married. Further, the circumstances for her friend wasn’t same as Elizabeth’s as she was getting older and didn’t find anyone that she liked latter she end up marrying Mr. Collins not because she loves him but only because she was bound with the thought that married is very important for women.
