Stereotypes In Movies Essay

Animated children movies are generally filled with numerous inequalities and stereotypes between both genders, so these ideas create a social structure of how men and women should act in a specific social class. A lot of times, these stereotypes are learned by children unconsciously watching the movie and it affects how they portray things in the world. The movie, Anastasia challenges many of the social norms and allows people to see that women can be independent and not rely on a man to save them in the end. This is evident by the fact that Anaya ventures to Paris to find her family and although she does receive help from a con man named Demetri, in the end she saves herself from the evil force against her.

If the curse was not imposed on them, then Anaya would have lived a much different life as a duchess. She would not have dealt with as much turmoil in her life and could have developed to be a very different, less stubborn personality. Since she lacked the proper skills to be a princess, throughout the film, Demetri also had to teach Anya how to follow the social roles and etiquette of people in royalty. In the film, it is stated that “princesses don’t marry kitchen boys.” This shows the clear lines between the different social classes, because in most cases she would have to marry a prince or duke, but this movie breaks that because Anya ends up leaving her life as royalty to be with Demetri, the boy who saved her the day the curse was put on her family. Although the interactions between Anya and Demetri were often sarcastic with each other, in the end, they ended up falling in love. Although relationships like this do exist, this partially encourages women to forgive a man who takes advantage of her and uses her. Even though he changed his ways and gave up the money reward for finding her, in real life some men don’t change and this shows young women to give them the benefit of the
