They produced in the year 1956 a amount of 12.4 million tons of coal (2). This was why the air smelt burnt because the coal mines were always in use, burning the coal in the blast furnaces. Mining in Dortmund had a large boom in the town around 1837 when new technology allowed them to break through 100 meter thick rock (marl) to get to the coal below. There was a high demand for coal so it could be used as a solid fuel (coke) to power cooking ovens and more. The high demand for coal eventually lead to the creation of multiple railroad systems in Germany (3). The familiar clanking sounds happened then there was a even brighter white light and I was sitting in the new room that I had found. I quickly started writing the events of the day down and summarized how industrial revolution begins. Industrial revolution is caused when a large amount of useful material (such as coal) is accessible and available which leads to new inventions and ultimately becomes the biggest area of income and development.
