Industrial Revolution Dbq Analysis

The United States has made a great amount of progression over time. This is shown in a time period full of major developments known as the industrial revolution. However there are many changes that negatively affected our society during the industrial revolution. During the industrial revolution working conditions were poor, living conditions were crowded, and children had little to no time to get a quality education. Though the country economically flourished at this time, the people suffered. People who had money (factory owners) were the ones who benefit from the Industrial Revolution the most. Low class people who were the workers were not so fortunate. The workers were forced to work in harsh working conditions and were severely punished if refused to work. Most factory workers were overworked. They worked nine hour shifts with no breaks. Also many workers were getting paid little to no pay because at the time there was no minimum wage set. These harsh conditions are evident in Document five. Document five talks about factory life from the workers perspective. The unbalance in society is described in Document three which talks about the industrial revolution for those less fortunate. This caused the crime rate to slowly rise in crowded areas. Not only did it create less jobs it created less living space. This is a primary reason as to why tenements were formed. Tenements were a new form of housing that was developed. Since families were so closely compact these tenements were fire hazards, wasteful and disease filled.
