Accident Essay

In July 1994, I was involved in an accident, and in this accident I lost the end of my right middle finger. So the story I’m about to tell you is true. On this particular day I was working at the United States Postal Service at 7117 W. Harry I had just been assigned to work with Rick Sifford. Rick and I were to move some three-inch angle iron. I think there were about 20 feet long so that equates to a lot of weight, far more than was safe for two people to move. I forget how many pieces of iron we got on the netting truck, but we got it out to the carrier dock out at the south end of the GMF (general mail facility) and we were loading it onto a trailer. I think we got the 1st load onto the trailer, we went back and got more, and started to …show more content…
I then told my supervisor” no not yet” but on the way to Surgicare over on Hillside I told my boss to go ahead and call my wife to let her know where we were headed. So at that time my boss called my wife and let her know that I was involved in an accident at work, and we were headed to Surgicare on Hillside and she met us there just before I went in for surgery on my right middle finger.
They called it an amputation revision of the right middle finger, all in all I would much rather have my finger back. After getting out of Surgicare they gave me some pain medication for my finger, and sent me home. The next day I was back at work on pain medication, so they had me sit in a chair all day doing nothing. Just the thought of getting my finger smashed still makes me want to cringe. I do not think I could watch my daughter get hurt the way I did.
There are three things I learned from this accident: 1.) Rick is dangerous. 2.) Pain is a great teacher. 3) Sometimes it is real hard to find funny part to laugh at. The way this accident has changed me is that with the loss of the end of my finger the sense of touch for that finger has changed. I mean that when I am looking for something, and I cannot use my eyes, I have to rely on my sense of touch which is now incomplete, and it has been that way since the

I was smiling the whole time as the skin around my neck was being ripped off. Well I wasn’t actually smiling and as brutal as I made it sound, it wasn’t as horrific an event now that I look back on it. The incident occurred while I was on Spring Break during my freshman year in high school. My family and I were vacationing in Gatlinburg, Tennessee;which if I might add we’ve been there about eight times since I was seven years old. The quote that influenced my experience is by Yehuda Berg “On one hand, we know that everything happens for a reason, and there are no mistakes or coincidences. On the other hand, we learn that we can never give up, knowing that with the right tools and energy, we can reverse any decree or karma. So, which is it? Let the Light decide, or never give up?…
