Indri Myth

Indri or the Babakoto is a primate and a lemur belonging to the suborder Strepsirrhini. The name Indri has Malagasy origins, which are people that come from Madagascar. The Malagasy people called these lemurs Babakoto because in their language it means “father”. Baba is translated as father and Koto is translated as a kid (Mittermeier). Going deeper into its name meaning and its mythology, the Malagasy legend goes that one day a man who went to the forest and did not come back and due to his disappearance, his son went after him searching for his father, but the son also disappeared. Later, when the town people went into the forest in search for the father and son, they instead found two Indri lemurs in top of a tree. The legend says that the father and the boy transformed into the Indri lemurs (Quinn).

Almost half of their routinely daily life includes nothing other than finding food and eating it and the the other half simply resting. They sleep somewhere about ten to thirty meters in a tree. Only a minute portion of the day would include for social activities. When it comes to defecation, the Indri do it together in a common area. In terms of its home range, its different in respect to its location and the quality of it. Since the Mantadia National Park is big, the home range the home range is expected to be bigger, but on average, it is about 0.1m2. The Indri in daily basis walks around for about 800m, give or take. Moreover, the Indri are also sympatric with other lemurs in terms of their home ranges. According to A. Britt and K.
