Individualism And Collectivism In Ayn Rand's Anthem

Ayn Rand’s claims, concerning her book, “Anthem”, are both reasonable and justifiable. Her ideas towards individualism and collectivism are be supported in many different ways. In a world of people living by Rand’s theories, humankind could only move in a forward direction. First of all, societal and technical developments would thrive with man working together to achieve rather than to compete. Any given person’s life would be better for themselves if they put their own well being before others’. Finally, if every man were to take upon themselves the responsibilities of an individualist, they make the lives of themselves and those around them easier. Individuals are motivated by the desire to achieve, not by the desire to beat others. As a cooperative group or individualized thinkers and observers, man should work to benefit themselves rather than to best a competitor. This way, the world only moves in a positive direction, with nothing bringing it backwards, holding it back, or getting in the way of development. If any man were to work for himself before working for others, then their life is easier and better for himself. If every man were to live this way, every man’s life would be easier. By sacrificing one’s life for the benefit of another, there will still always be one life suffering more than the other. One man’s life will always have more struggle and more worry than the other’s. By being so concerned with yourself, you can make sure that you are able to accomplish your tasks and allow others to accomplish
