Indirect Characterization In Legend By Marie Lu

In Legend by Marie Lu the author uses indirect characterization to show how June’s figuring out the republic is what they say to be. At this point in the story June just finished reading Matias's blog. As June reads his journal she finds multiple words that are misspelled, she knows this is no coincidence and decides to decode them. The unscrambled words lead her to a link to Matias's blog. “I don't move for the next few hours. When the Republic’s pledge starts up outside, I can hear the people on the streets chanting along, but I don't bother to stand. I don't salute when Elector Primo’s name comes up” (Lu 250). This scene reveals that June is starting to not trust the government and is contemplating with herself whether she should trust
