This was really helpful because, Rene made me understand that there was more to Indigenous people than the pains and suffering they went through. He introduced me into the arts and culture of Indigenous people and made me acknowledge that not all the people who went through the Residential school became a mess. Also, I mentioned in my envelope that I knew about an act which was created to help Indigenous people from being discriminated. At that time, I didn’t know it was called the Indian act. But by learning about the Indian act from the class lectures and the textbook, I understand now that the act was not created to stop discrimination. According to Darren Thomas one of the guest speaker, he explained that the Indian act created reserves and a pass system, in which Indigenous people had to get a pass when they want to leave the reserve, ceremonies were banned and their traditional government was also banned. Through this, I have come to recognize that the Residential school was not the only method that was used against Indigenous people. Through the activities in class, the guest speakers and the lectures, I have come to know the real Image of indigenous peoples, their way of knowing, culture, customs and traditions and all these has shaped my experiences about what I knew before and what I know
