The preamble contains the fundamental of the constitution. It serves several important purposes, such as
a.) Its objective is to enact clause which brings the constitutional into force
b.) Its purpose is to provide the great rights and freedoms which people of India intended to secure to all its citizens.
c.) It emphasizes on the basic type of government and polity which is sought to be established in the country.
d.) Its main objective is to throw light on the source of the constitution that is the People of India
As to grand objectives and socio-economics goals to achieve which the Indian polity has been established these are stated in the preamble. A court may look into the object and policy of the Act as recited in the Preamble when a doubt arises in its mind as to whether the narrower or the more liberal interpretation ought to be placed on the language which is capable of bearing both meanings. Therefore preamble is always gone through before any amendments in constitution. These are to secure its citizen social economic and political justice. The main purpose of the preamble is to explain the facts which is important to be recited before the enactment contained in the act of the parliament so that it can be understandable to a common man also. In Berubari the Supreme Court held that the Preamble to the Constitution containing the declaration made by the people of India in exercise of their sovereign will, no doubt is “a key to open the minds of framers of the Constitution” which may show the general purposes for which they made the several provisions in the Constitution but nevertheless the Preamble is not a part of the Constitution.
