People called him Junior Falls down, Bloody nose, and steal his lunch. One time he was called Cries like a white boy. When it was morning recess a boy named Frenchy SiJohn threw snowballs at him. Most of the time he lets Frenchy bully him, but that day he fought back. He punched Frenchy in the face and chanted: “It’s a good day to die, it’s a good day to die,” while he went to the principal’s office. In the 2nd grade, his teacher hated him, her name was Betty Towle. She made Sherman stay in for recess 14 days straight. When the class was having a spelling test, she gave Sherman a spelling test that was for Junior high school students. When he got all the words right Betty took his paper, ripped it and told him to eat it, and said: “You’ll learn respect.” Betty told Sherman’s parents to cut his braids or he can’t come back to school. His parents dragged their braids across Betty’s Desk. Betty said “Indians Indians Indians,” and Sherman was proud of who he is. This made him realize he should be proud of his race.
Both Sherman and I were bullied when we were younger. They gave names, I was Girl who talks with her tough and he was Junior falls down a lot. At that point, he just let them bully us and pretends we didn’t care or notice. I did not fight them physically but mentally. I just showed them that I did not care what they said about me. Sherman, on the other hand, fought them to show the bully he was stronger than them. Sherman and I will always be our-self no matter what. Even though the adult in our life may want us to change, we will not listen to
