India India is the seventh largest country in the world. It has vast geographical features. Three different bodies of water surround the country of India. These are the Arabian Sea in the west, Bay of Bengal in the east and the Indian Ocean in the south. Because of this, it is very recognizable on the world map. The country covers an area of about 3.28 million sq km. India divides into several different geographical regions. India is a federation composed of 29 states and 7 union territories. All states, as well as the union territories of Puducherry and the National Capital Territory of Delhi, have elected legislatures and governments, both patterned on the Westminster model. The center through appointed administrators directly rules the remaining five union territories. In 1956, under the States Reorganization Act, states reorganized on a linguistic basis. Since then, their structure has remained largely unchanged. Each state or union territory further divides into administrative districts. The districts in turn are further divided into tehsils and ultimately into villages. (Wikipedia, 2015)
