My name is Carlos Aceves my research paper will be on discussing the pros and cons of Independent work or Corporate / Franchise employment. The reason I chose this topic is very simple. Being recently retired from the United States Military after 21 years of active service, my best way to enjoy my retirement is to choose to work independently, than to be working a 40 plus hour a week than just working at your own pace and time. Choosing independent work for me is that I will always have some time on my hands so I can keep occupied. As a general guideline for America. Other countries may differ in culture and not all customers are the same. However this should be helpful for anyone who decides to become an independent mechanic. One of the best places to post is online classifieds such as craigslist.com. This provides a good outlook on various writing and advertising styles while also providing a good outlook of the competition. Put yourself in the customer's perspective when you read the ads, who would you rather take your car to? Keep your advertisements simple. As if working for a Corporate or franchise, they have already done a Web Page or even a word of mouth that it’s not as difficult to advertise as if you would do it yourself.
Equipment
Equipment is a must as an independent mechanic you must have quality tools whether you are on site mechanic or home repair. Having quality tools will more time efficient and will cost the customer less money and you will save more time. As a corporate mechanic some of the “State of the Art Equipment” is already on hand. There is a major downside to this as most of the public is brainwashed to believe that quality car repair service can only be obtained from a real service shop with many bays and employees that wear clean shirts.
