I agree, physician-hospital organization (PHO) relationship to independent and employed physicians are used almost entirely with independent physicians. The physicians may contribute as individuals, medical groups or just through IPA. Disadvantages of independent physicians include inspection for antitrust violation for price fixing. Also the fix is lowered if payment is involved with some level of monetary threat. Additionally, employed physicians in IDS may not be direct employees of the hospital system, but employed through another source.
