Independent Study Vs Classroom Education

Decent Essays
I think independent study is much more effective than classroom study for me and I am going to explain why. The reason that I think that is because in my own experience classroom study was very ineffective for me. Now obviously it is my fault I failed, but I know if I am responsible of how fast I work and how much I get done I can thrive better than being in a classroom and having a teacher trying to focus on 30 other kids. I don’t think I’ll learn much in that scenario. The reason is that sometimes a lot of the time is used to correct the students that are behaving poorly in the classroom.

If the same amount of time had been spent with me just doing the work on my own I think I would have failed. The reason online schooling didn't work

When you are doing things on your own you learn more, like if you have an assignment that you need to get the answers from the book you will most likely read most if not all of the book and get more information needed than if you have a whole group telling you the answers. In our History class, we have president packets and you have to look up some of the facts. Most of the facts that you see are completely new and some are pretty funny. If you have a whole group, again you will get stuff from them, you could also be more creative by yourself and thinking of your own ways to do things.…

There are some challenges to hands on and cross-curricular learning, within our activity we came across some areas that could have been developed, Hayes (2010) argues that hands on learning its heavily resourced. We agreed with this as the amount of resources we had available were limited. We also didn’t ensure we had planned for a child with a medical need, and therefore had to re arrange the activity a quarter of the way through the lesson to ensure she could join in. One key area that we identified was that children became more involved with the way the house looked in a creative sense, rather than the scientific reasoning. This challenge is also identified by Jarvis (2009) who expresses that one of the risks to cross-curricular learning is that one subject takes over in response to children’s enthusiasm and interest, this is of a loss to the other subject.…

As an educator of detained youth, I am troubled by the recidivism rate and the lack of re-entry services available to incarcerated juveniles. Many of the students return from various types of out-of-home placements to their homes, schools, and communities without adequate after care services to address their needs. The lack of transitioning services decreases their chance for success and places them at a high risk for academic failure. Due to past incarcerations and personal problems, many of my students have low self-esteem, trust issues, and a lack of desire for academic success. As an educator, my official job is to educate, but on a daily basis, I spend a portion of my time mentoring, but the students need structured continuous mentoring…

While the nine classes considered originally began with a total enrolment of approximately 450, students who withdrew midway through the semester or failed to ever attend class are excluded from the results. As a result, there was a very strong positive correlation between the overall scores obtained on the written homework assignments (M = 78.08, SD = 23.07) and the combined exams (M = 72.76 SD = 17.51), with r = 0.71, p < 0.001, N = 375. This is noteworthy given that the exams (which are graded according to a standard quantitative rubric) are timed, whereas homework is not. A scatterplot, with line of best fit, is shown in the Figure below.…
