The adverse effect of incretin therapy includes acute pancreatitis. Patient are instructed to report any signs associated with pancreatitis to their healthcare provider. Patient on incretin therapy also showed development of thyroid tumors. More common adverse effect are dizziness and GI tract related such as heartburn, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. Another adverse effect is that patient also develops antibodies against incretin based drug therapy leading to hypersensitivity. Lastly, incretin based therapy should be carefully used in patient with renal and liver diseases due to fact these medication are metablized and eliminated by these organ.
