The Incredible Years
Several programs have been designed to help children who have emotional and behavioral issues. One of these programs is the Incredible Years program, which is based on a series of comprehensive and interlocking programs for parents, teachers and children (Researchers).
Incredible Years is intended for children who are high risk or diagnosed with one or more of several behavioral disorders (Programmes). One of the strengths of the Incredible Years program is its promotion of an interagency approach when dealing with behavioral and emotional difficulties in children (Programmes). The Incredible Years program is designed to promote social and emotional relationships as well as to prevent, reduce and treat aggression and emotional problems in children ages 0 to 12 years old (Program). Incredible Years training is based on the developmental theory of interacting risk and protective factors in conduct problems (Program). All Incredible Years curricula places strong emphasis on the importance of having a firm foundation laid before introducing any other elements (Programmes). Evidence from these test groups shows the programs have improved behaviors of up to 80 percent of the children enrolled in the program (Program.). Additionally, the Incredible Years program has been credited with increasing positive parenting by reducing parental criticism and negative commands, and increasing parent use of effective limit-setting by replacing physical punishments with proactive discipline techniques, ultimately resulting in a reduction of conduct problems with the child at home and school
