The Adult Education program is open to various age groups. Younger students are less likely to have adaptive skills that are learned from life experiences. The older students are equipped with adaptive skills that enhance their abilities to adjust to the learning environment. The diverse age range plays a significant role in the occurrence of dilemmas in adult education.
The instructor voiced her concerns about the younger student causing unnecessary interruptions, not complying with the rules, and being unprepared for class with the supervisor and director of the program. The instructor was advised to document the occurrences and counsel the student on changing her class demeanor. Networking with other adult education professors to gain a better insight on ethical dilemmas that are prevalent in adult education would be a starting point. Researching effective ways to avoid loss of integrity when ethical dilemmas occur in adult education would help me work effectively with my personal bias.
Conclusion
A synopsis of my professional purpose that included my career goals, a self-reflection and my professional growth were disclosed in this paper, which revealed how my career aspirations align with the Adult Education program. The disclosure of my professional purpose was reaffirmed in the paper, “Helping adult learners become successful one student at a time”. It has established that a degree in Adult Education is suitable for me as a life-long learner.
This paper supported the outcomes on “Student Retention and Attrition” from the synthesis of various literature reviewed pertaining to higher education. It provided information on retention and attrition that can be utilized across the educational board, without regards to the location of higher education
