For those students who plan to go to school they will receive some type of financial aid depending on their income. Those students who are receiving financial aid they receive federal money to help pay for school and it is given to the student as a grant. In the book Paying the price: college costs, financial aid, and the betrayal of the American dream by Sara Goldrick-Rab she talks about many factors of financial aid for students. It states: “Passage of the Higher Education Act of 1965 dramatically increased federal investment in higher education and provided grants and loans for those students attending a public or private college.” (p.13) In this you can understand that they tried to make going to college affordable and it is still in use today. Something that we need to understand is that this act was passed in 1965 and that was a time where there were many movements taking place. Take this in an Economic perspective times have change and our economy has changed. What is really the point of having these federal grants when it only covers so much.
