Increasing Minimum Wage Being young in this generation, of course I’ve had a job since my age would allow me, starting at 7.95 an hour. Then it so happens a few months later it was raised about fifteen cents. Since I was between the ages 16-17, I thought I was making a decent amount of money. I mean I was still living under the same roof with my mother, and my father is really active in my life. I didn’t really a job, but I always wanted a job, to have a sense of independence. When you’re an only child, believe me that’s hard. Now that I’m a college student, and I’m away from home things are a lot tougher. Both of my parents pay my tuition once a month just to keep me here. Believe me, college isn’t cheap, and to get them to send me money is rare. So of course I had to get a job on campus. There isn’t anything wrong with that at all, I mean I love my job. It’s just a lot of stipulations like, I can only work 20 hours a week, I get paid once a week, etc. Which I’m fine with except I’m not use to not having money in my pockets. The thing I really liked about this article was the fact that it goes into great detail the possibilities of increasing minimum wage. I found myself asking the questions “what if” and saying “this makes so much sense”. Paul Krugman started the big controversy by stating that minimum wage should be about $15 an hour. Basically saying that larger companies like I mentioned before, McDonalds, it shouldn’t be a problem as far as keeping people employed. The U.S Department of Labor suggests that it will help out the economy in a number of ways. It will increase consumer purchasing and reduce employee turnover.
