Its mission is to offer seniors an enriched quality of life in adherence to Christian values and beliefs (Elim Village, 2009). The change project, based in one of the complex residential care residences, will institute on-site certified hand hygiene auditors, educational tools, an updated hand hygiene policy, and other resources/visual reminders so that the facility meets the hand hygiene compliance requirements set forth by Accreditation Canada 2016.
This paper will explore some of the theory that was put into practice throughout the project. This includes an analysis of the course concepts of health promotion and teaching and learning, an outline of how Lewin’s change theory was used, as well as an exploration of the nurse’s role in influencing change and implications for future practice.

To further highlight this, a study conducted by Huis et al. (2013), noted that hand hygiene strategies succeeded only when traditional strategies (i.e. workplace reminders, audits, training sessions) were supplemented with social influence and leadership components. Social influence components included setting norms and goals, establishing team sessions, empowering team members to speak up when poor hand hygiene is observed, and supporting each other to promote hand hygiene (Huis et al., 2013).
