There are a lot of risks and benefits about increasing and decreasing the states funding when it comes to higher education. Many argue that more funding is good, and others argue that decreasing funding is good. When it comes to the benefits of increasing the funding it could help the states develop a workforce, improves economic success and increases wages. Other benefits for the students include higher graduation rates and having higher paying jobs. This is because when it comes to the future of workforces in each of the states it will improve the quality of jobs. Investing in higher education tuition to keep tuition low and quality high at public colleges and universities, and to provide financial aid to those students who need it most, would help states to develop the skilled workforce they will need to compete for these jobs (Oliff ). The workforce in all of the states would improve because each of the students are funded because the increase in budget. This being said, having a highly educated workforce will overall increase the economic success in areas. When it come to decreasing the budget, the states could end up spending more money on other projects other than higher education. With the funding cuts already in place for some states it is harder for public colleges and universities to staff the campuses with full time instructors. This could threaten the students learning and success after graduation. Whereas increasing the budget for students would be life changing. It would not only have positive effects on graduation rates it would also increase the student’s yearly earnings because they have a college degree. College graduates make more money (Matthews). Overall increasing the budget will only affect the students in a positive way. Because the increasing of budget the students will also benefit from this because it has been proven that college graduates have higher job satisfaction
