By encouraging the use of technology we are able to create performance measure systems that contain up-to-date data in a timely fashion. The communication between officers and citizens can then be readily accessible by all police officers on their beats via laptops in their cars or smart phones enabling the officer to know detailed information about a victim, offender or the location of the crime. The officers need to be present in meetings with the community being accountable if there is a decrease in public dissatisfaction. In addition, other public measures such as surveys can show where dissatisfaction is most and provide insight on the problems in that community. Other types of methods to measure the success or failure of a community-policing unit can include measuring the officer’s response time to a priority call. This may indicate the need to allocate more officers to a community. Other metrics include the citizen’s ratings of safety during the daytime and when it is dark, quantity or percentage of calls ranked as top priority, the percentage of violent and property crimes cleared, and overall arrests. (icma.org, 2014) The timeline does not have to be specifically done in a specific time but on what the specific objectives are. What is the community policing trying to achieve and how. For each objective there needs to be criteria that includes before and after statistics or analyses. So for the above measures documenting all the results on a daily, weekly, monthly and yearly basis can provide an accurate model of the success of a particular community policing
