Incorporating Students Expectations In The Classroom

I did not know this

and now that I have some insight about it I am going to bring it back to my practicum, and talk

about different types of strategies to use with my cooperating teacher to assist the English

language learner in the class.

Having high expectations for students play an important role in the learning process. The

higher the expectations and support for learning are the higher the results will be. If teachers

provide a positive leaning environment, it will motivate the students to do their best. Teachers

convince the students that having these high goals are possible. Incorporating different aspects

into the curriculum is critical (Kauchak & Eggen, 2008).

Learning how to control feelings and

different types of relationships establish a type of emotional intelligence, this allows people to be

effective (Burbules & Raybeck, 2014).

Emotions are oftentimes thought of as being irrational feelings that are not in our control.

Although, emotions are a complex part of our minds that consist of different reactions to

situations that will either be taken care of or just put on the back burner (Burbules &

Raybeck, 2014). People can understand an event as being sad, happy or somewhere in the

middle. When faced with emotions physically a sad situation might deal with some tears, or a

happy situation would leave someone with a great upbeat feeling and a smile on their face.

Oftentimes people may try and find comfort when they are, sad or run to find help when faced

with a dangerous situation. It is very vital to identify the significant link between actions,

emotions, and thoughts (Burbules & Raybeck, 2014).

Furthermore, it is important to have the students understand that having these different

types of emotions are a normal thing, but it can always be managed to a point (Burbules

What I have learned from multicultural education is that by dedicating space and time for

their education is something that all students need to take into consideration (Burbules &

Raybeck, 2014). Students are not going to be able to make any progression if they are not setting

aside time to practice. The saying of practice makes perfect will always come into play, I believe

that when students put forth the effort, they can achieve anything. An important point

contributing to the student’s progression often deals with whether the student wants to do it

(Burbules & Raybeck, 2014). There have been times in my practicum where students just did not

want to participate and just sat in the class doing absolutely nothing. By letting the students write

for example, about whatever they wanted I noticed had the students more engaged and wanting

to do the writing piece. Also, I noticed that when the students were taken out of the classroom for

their private help sessions, they were forced to focus on writing and only writing. I let the

students write about whatever they wanted and this is when I saw what the students were truly

capable
