Great post! I agree that nursing practice cannot be limited to past experiences and traditions anymore. With limited resources and rising cost of healthcare, finding ways to improve safety, efficacy, and quality of patient care while reducing cost is of utmost importance. Incorporating evidence-based practice (EBP) allows each nurse an opportunity to use their skills in scientific inquiry. A patient centered care necessitates nurses to question current practices that are not working or are not as safe, efficient, or cost-effective for the patient. In the past, patients use to stay in the hospital until they finish their course of intravenous (IV) antibiotics if there is no oral antibiotic that can be given to treat the infection.
