State the research question (1-2 sentences)
The introduction of this article states that incivility among ICU nurses is negatively affecting patient outcomes, nurse satisfaction, and increasing stress. Therefore, the research question of this article is: would nurse education programs among ICU nurses decrease incivility in clinical practice, in turn increasing nurse retention and help patient outcomes, compared to no nurse education programs?
P: ICU nurses
I: nurse education programs
C: no nurse education programs
O: decrease incivility in clinical practice and increasing nurse retention and patient outcomes

However, using an alpha of 0.25, there was no statistical significance in the difference of the pre and post NIS scores. They also found that most of the incidences of incivility were seen from families and patients, not supervisors, the supervisors actually showed the least amount of incivility. More finding revealed that perceived incivility was more often seen from white nurses, nurses on the younger side (20-39), ones who work part-time and those that have worked for more than 5 years. In the end it was stated that education on incivility should still be implemented to nurses due to the fact that this raises awareness for incivility which then leads to rectifying the …show more content…
Another threat to internal validity is selection bias since the subjects weren’t randomized in any way or put into a control group and an experimental group where one group was educated and one group wasn’t to see a difference in pre and post test scores. Even though there was exclusion and inclusion criteria for the sample population, selection bias is difficult to avoid.
Name 2 threats to external validity from the study (2-3 sentences)
One threat to external validity in this article is a reactive effect where the nurses didn’t start off knowing what to look for, so after being educated and knowing they had to provide insight on incivility after the fact, they could have seen more of a hostile environment, giving those post scores a higher number. This is known as the Hawthorne effect. Another threat to external validity is a measurement effect due to the fact that there was a pre-education survey, post-education survey, and educational program which could affect the way the researcher is able to generalize it to other populations.
Who can the findings be generalizable to? (1-2
