Although the book is written by, and about Jacob’s life she presented herself with a different name in the reading, Linda Brent. Brent, in a first person narrative talks about her life, and what it was to be property of the white man. She was constantly considered to be less than human, and nothing more than property. Harriet Jacobs was a brave young woman who brought a new perspective to the blind eye of the white community. Without her work, and others like her, slavery might still rot America today. She taught, to be a slave meant to be an object that is owned. In body the black man might compare to the white man, yet only the skin can tell you who is who. So why is white more superior than black? What right does the white man have to all this power that the black man does not? It is merely an opinion, and a question unanswered. There is no substantial proof that the color of one’s skin determines the value of a person. We in fact are all created with the same products, and in the same manner. So blue, purple, black, or white, we are all human, and all humans created
