Langston Hughes is a poet with great talents. He wrote pieces that all had great meanings. One particular poem I, Too, was different from the others. Even though the poet was black, and he referenced his character to be a “darker brother”; he is trying to reach out to everyone who ever felt different from the group. Langston wanted to touch all who felt like a black sheep in a herd of white sheep, the people who are different from the others; no matter if you were tall, dark, small, or light.
Langston shows you within the poem how they treat the character whenever company came to eat. Said character was forced to eat in the kitchen and eat his meal. After time past he finally was fed up and told himself he was going to eat at the table the next meal, and he swears that nobody will dare the him to eat in the kitchen, but rather see how beautiful said character is and they’ll be ashamed of how they treated him.
Incident is a poem by Countee Cullen. Countee Cullen is one of the great voices that represented the Harlem Renaissance. She writes this poem, and many others, not only to entertain us, but to inform us of how the elders now where back then, and how they treated the people of their time. She influencing us in the other poems as well, shows us our strengths and how people in this new generation might run into these same problems, or has these same problems. In other words, she is bringing to the light how the secrete name calling, the separation, the bad looks and slander given by neighbors or co-workers is still happening today, and we do not have to sit here and take it any
