The mystery behind the deity and humanity of Christ has been a concept that christian and non-christian scholars alike have been grappling with for centuries. Nowadays in the U.S., even nonstudents of theology have often been forced to try to wrap their minds around this claim whether because they are trying to understand, articulate, or deny the Incarnation of Christ. Like the doctrine of the Trinity, it is often a “deal-breaker” for those seeking to understand fully and on earthly terms the fullness of God. J.I. Packer writes in his book Knowing God, “Here are two mysteries for the price of one– the plurality of persons within the unity of God, and the union of Godhead and manhood in the person of Jesus.” (Packer, 53) As christians, it is important for us to be able to know and be able to explain the biblical proof of Christ being both fully man and fully God.
