The trauma each child faces within ones life has a significant impact to mental health problems throughout their childhood (Szilagyi, Rosen, Rubin, Zlotnik). Ideally, once a child is placed into a home a mental health professional should evaluate and diagnosis the child within a certain amount of time (Szilagyi, Rosen, Rubin, Zlotnik). Children are not receiving the appropriate treatment needed, due to the shortage of health professionals in this area (Szilagyi, Rosen, Rubin, Zlotnik). Considering there are not enough medical professionals employed, the medics who are working within the foster care system are not receiving adequate training on how to deal with children who suffer from trauma. Due to the lack of funding in the foster care system, they are struggling to get enough health professionals to make the system a more reliable source for the children (Szilagyi, Rosen, Rubin, Zlotnik). This is also a very repetitive cycle within the medical side of the foster care system. This is to raise awareness to those who work with the maltreated infants and toddlers, and to improve the outcomes of the children who are involved with the court system (Zero to Three). It is in place to inform family members about health development within the child (Zero to Three). Hopefully with this program we will see significant changes within the foster care system. Having something developed for young children will hopefully decrease the mental illnesses that are being faced in the foster care system today.
CONCLUSION
The foster care system has struggled severally throughout the past decade or so. The different problems that are faced within the system are primarily due to the lack of professionals and funding needed to help maintain an appropriate system within. Hopefully within the next few years, we will see an improvement to the system across the border. This will allow the children to be properly cared for in the way that they
