Incan Religion
The Incas were a polytheistic tribe that lived in Peru around 1400 to 1533CE. They worshipped multiple gods and goddesses. They also worshipped their ancestors. And then they had all kinds of celebrations for the gods and their ancestors.
First is all the gods and goddesses. Viracocha and Inti were the most important of them all. Viracocha was the creator god and over the others. Inti was the sun god. Inti was believed to be the son of Viracocha. Inti was the most worshipped by the Incas. Inti had the temple mad of gold. The Incas had a twelve-month calendar just like ours. Their festivities went by the month of the year. They lived off the lands so it was very important for them to be able to follow the seasons. Their months were named for important events whether it was agricultural or religious. Their January would be equivalent to our June due to them being south of the equator. All of the festivals were all colorful. I will go in order starting with their January and give you their name of each month and what celebration was in it. The month of small ripening was called Kamay. Next would have been the month of great ripening or Hatun Poky. Next would be the month of the flowers and Earth ripening called Pakar Waray. Then there was the month of the Dance of Young Maize, a white Llama, brushed and groomed and covered with fine clothes and gold ornaments. They were paraded in the plaza in front of a large gathering of people. That month was known as Auriwa. This next one was very important and all the empires participated. This was the celebration of the harvest. This month was known as Aymuray. Now their most important celebration was the Celebration of the Sun. It was in the month of Inti Raymi. They celebrated and thanked the Sun God Inti. The believed that Inti was actually holding the celebration. They also believed that Inti’s guest was the emperor and his noblemen.
