In The Warm Sun Tone

Before: At the beginning of the story, the tone is warm, innocent and childlike. In paragraph 1, it states " The harvesting of the corn and cotton, peanuts and squash, made each day a golden surprise that caused excited little tremors to run up her jaws." This symbolizes that it is autumn, and the harvest season create the colors of the day in a vision of nature in its beauty. As the story continues, Myop's excitement becomes contagious. In paragraph 2, it states " She felt light and good in the warm sun. She was ten and nothing existed for her but her song, the stick clutched in her dark brown hand, and the tat-de-ta-ta-ta of accompaniment." Furthermore, the author uses symbolism to make a deeper meaning to the story. For instance, in paragraph 8, when Myop realizes that the man was hanged, her perspective of life changes. She isn't blind by the reality of life. In paragraph 8, it states " Myop laid down her flowers." In other words, this symbolizes the end of her happiness, innocence, and childhood. After what she has realized, she can't be the same person she once was. Another example of her perspective changing is the last sentence, it states, " And the summer was over." This statement represents the loss of Myop's innocence. The two sentences indicate that Myop was bothered and felt that everything has changed for her: She realized that evil existed in the world and that she couldn't go on bouncing around and collecting flowers like a child anymore. Myop was affected by the realization that her innocence was gone, and she faced the cruel world.
