Women in the Dominican society is the stereotypical way women have been viewed for centuries. If they were married, they stayed at home to look after the children while their husband worked. Basically, women did not have an important role in society like the men did. Women during this time were inferior to men. Consequently, this was the reason why women became pushovers and had no say about their life. They were given no chance to getting an education or to participate in the workforce therefore hindering them to strive in society. These women were purposely ran off the road and murder individually by Trujillo men. The reason for their killings was their opposition to the regime and inciting others to try to overthrow the brutal dictator. Dede did not join the sisters in their rebellion instead she continue their legacy spreading the truth of her sister's story. Women in the Dominican Republic did not have equality or freedom. However, some women wanted a change. The Mirabal sisters bravery and determination to make women were very active and their protesting to get equality gained attention worldwide. The Mirabal sisters were victims in a patriarchal society, the struggles they encountered symbolizes the power of their story as they take a stand for women's rights and against the dictator Trujillo. Responding to Trujillo’s destruction in the country and citizen homes the Mirabal sister took a stand and made history. Julia Alvarez addresses the role of women in her novel In The Time Of The Butterflies using the Mirabal sisters and their quest to do what is right and take a
