There were specific periods/ages that were a distinct part of Ireland’s history such as the Mesolithic period, Neolithic period and the Viking age. In order to get to Ireland most people came through sea or through land if it was still connected. Thousands of years ago, the sea level wasn't so high as it is today so it was a lot easier to cross through different areas because of the way everything was still close, just like how, for example “Ireland and Scotland are less than fifteen miles apart.” Things such as burned stones are common ancient monuments. The first that settled in the ancient land were said to be hunters and gathers making it a, “hunter-gatherer tribe; any larger and they exhaust the resources in their immediate territory; any smaller and their breeding group is too small to survive for many generations.” Later as time went on another group of people soon came along known as the Vikings. They understood the economic benefit from using the rivers and sea routes that the land provided and the way they could trade with other towns near and across from them. Most regions had their own type of king, that ruled that particular area usually passed down through the families generation. Ireland had yet to find a king that united the whole land together like other European countries
