The order authorized the military “to ban any citizens from a fifty to sixty-mile-wide coastal area stretching from Washington State to parts California and going all the way into part of Arizona.” With the timing of the Executive Order 9066 being passed it was only 10 short weeks after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, and the government was still on edge.
