In the article, she is unclear exactly what she is promoting and what she is condemning. Readers are lead to believe that she is condemning all fresh or natural foods and promoting all process or packaged food. This of course is silly and makes no sense. Just because something is made in a factory does not automatically make it unhealthy. Her argument is based largely on the messages conveyed by newspapers, magazines, television and in cookbooks. Most people do not eat a diet that is completely fresh, local, or organic food. Her article implies that this way of eating is true for all people. Even when preparing homemade meals, we typically use store bought flour, meat, eggs, milk and spices. These are all examples of industrialized or processed foods. Most of the time life is about compromise. Just because something is made in a factory does not automatically make it bad. Encouraging people to include more fresh food in their daily diet is not the same as advising all industrialized foods be eliminated. A balanced diet is key.

She is not talking about the greasy, salty, over sweetened stuff that is clearly not good for you. This is a fact that has been proven over and over again in many medical studies. Eating a piece of store bought white bread with jelly from a jar isn’t a bad thing. However, eating hot pockets every day for lunch and McDonald’s or Pizza Hut for dinner is a whole different story.
