In-Home Observation Report

This week in the field I was able to finish completing tasks I have been working on for about two weeks for DSS. Also, I was able to attend an in-home visit and help DSS organize and clean archive files out of the file room. During the in-home visit with Vanessa I was able to speak with the client and get to know a few things about them. Therefore, I was given the opportunity to strengthen competency skill 7. During this visitation, the client and I was able to find common ground; sharing our interest in playing video games. This was important because this could potentially be a doorway for the client to open up and share their experiences in their foster home. This is that it is our job as DSS workers to evaluate the children in their foster homes. While Vanessa and I went through assessment procedure with the client I was able to share some information the client had shared with me about the home. The client shared that he had enjoyed living in the home but did not like how his foster mother required him to be home early at night. The client said they did not appreciate the early curfew simply because they are working at night and cannot always make curfew. Thus, the client, Vanessa, the foster parent and …show more content…
This form consists of different agencies that shelter DSS children. This referral list is important to keep up to date so DSS worker can refer children to agencies when children are placed out of foster homes. Therefore, I was able to practice and strengthen competency skill 3. This skill requires social workers to demonstrate effective oral and written communication in working with individuals, families, groups, organizations, communities, and colleagues. To do so, social workers need to have all referral form up to date with numbers and contact information so that transitions run smoothly. I was happy I was able to finally finish this task for the workers at DSS on this

Throughout the entire semester, I incorporated evidence based practice into my clinical days. Whether if I was performing a skill or if I was observing my nurse do a skill, I was thinking is this evidence based. I observed nurses use water instead of alcohol to clean an area on the skin before pricking a patient’s finger for a blood glucose check; this I knew was evidenced based. Some none evidence based thing that I observed were using 5/8inch needles when the nurse should have been using a 1inch length or not using two hands when assessing a patient’s fundus. I met my midterm goal of telling the nurse nicely that this is not what we learned in school.…

Before the decision is made weather or not the child is going into foster care or staying with their parents this step needs to be completed, On the other hand I have learned that It takes a while for the assessment to be competed with many steps following that may not benefit the child in the meantime. I know to be more empathetic with children going into the care of the local authority and give my support in order to make the child feel more…

A study conducted by David M. Rubin, MD. , professor of pediatrics at the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Medicine, concluded that children that were constantly changing foster homes had tremendous stability problems in the future as adults. Therefore, our team aims to meet three fundamental goals for this project. First, we want to create more fully staffed foster homes available to the children. Second, we aspire to give each child a fair chance at finding a loving family by reducing the child to CPS officer ratio by. This will also reduce the probability of any unnoticed problems while the child in the the foster care system.…
