To start with, lessening car usage has proven to lower stress levels of people who limit the vehicles’ roles in their lives. In “In German Suburb, Life Goes on Without Cars” the people of Vauban, Germany live their lives completely car-free. “When I had a car I was always tense. I’m much happier this way,” said a woman, Heidrun Walter, from this small community in Freiburg. Walter is a perfect example of the happiness that comes from the abandonment of motor vehicles as she walks the streets chatting away about the newfound content. Ms.Walter illustrates perfectly that life without a car lowers stress and can lead to a more peaceful life.
