Pete began pacing the porch. “What Martyn said to you about the solar system might explain the red sunsets and sunrises. The lights I've seen behind the clouds. People don't think to look up any more. Apart from farmers and sailors most seem to have forgotten how to read the weather by observing the sky. If what your friend says is true, we can’t believe what we see when we look up, because the sky is a lie.”
“Martyn said it's getting too close. They won’t be able to hide it much longer.”
“Is he talking about that lot Alistair calls the ruling class?”
“Martyn told me they call themselves the Elites.”
Pete shook his head. “Martyn gets his kicks scaring kids.”
“I trust him.”
“You only met him once.”
“Because the way he tells it—I don't know. I just trust him.”
Pete sighed. “Okay. Let's say he's telling the truth. The safest place I can think of is a refuge chamber. But then again...”
“What's a refuge chamber?”

“Yeah.”
“It's important. I can't talk out here.”
“Okay. Come on in.”
Matthew walked past him. “Mince pies for dinner, eh?”
“Dad, this is Matthew—”
“Wanganeen.”
“Hello, Mr. Elliot. I have a message for you. It’s from your wife. And I got another from Penny Boulos for your son.”
“Here sit down.” Storm pulled out a chair from the table.
“Yeah, thanks.” Matthew waited while the other two men took their seats before he sat down.
“What's happened to Stella?” Pete asked him his brow furrowed deeply, already steeling himself for bad news.
Why hasn't Summer telephoned me?
Stella had been recently diagnosed with a heart condition. The hospital told her a minor condition. Something to monitor. but nothing to worry about for the time being. For the time being. Those last four words haunted him for weeks after he spoke with Stella’s doctor.
Matthew saw the strain in Pete’s face. “Your wife is fine, Mr. Elliot.”
Pete released his breath and sat back in the chair. “Where is she?”
“In Marsford. She’s at home with Summer and Penny and her parents.”
“Michael is

Although the infamous murder of the Clutter family happened in November of 1959, Capote’s story was not published by Random House until late September of 1965. It was a long process for Capote to gather all the information needed to pull off this story. He traveled to Holcomb shortly after the murder and then he spent the next six years writing and researching the background behind the town, the family, and the two killers. While the book was considered a success by many “In Cold Blood is the work of art, the work of an artist" (Garrett 80), critics believe it was Truman’s last great work. He never published another book after In Cold Blood, and he even felt that the writing of the story took too much out of him: “ ‘it scraped me right down…

Chapter One Zaphkiel sat on the green grass that was beginning to turn yellow, contently watching the pink and orange sky. The trees around him stood still, but the air was stiller as if the whole world were frozen in time. As the sun sank behind the horizon, a cold wind broke the stillness. Red and orange leaves fluttered to life in the gust of wind. Some of them broke free from their branches to dance in the breeze.…

Journal # 1 Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad is a book I read for my University English class. People always say don’t judge a book by it’s cover, but I am that one guy that does. When I first looked at the book to be completely honest, I thought it had something to do with witches or something really unrealistic. I know I have a wild imagination. The first couple of pages of the book got me hooked instantly, I loved how the book just starts and how the narrator gets right into his adventure as a young man into the Congo River.…

July-Day 18 I can barely pull myself out of bed today, it's cold outside the blankets that have kept me safe since my descent to dreamland where I have been since 6:30 PM. I've slept for 12 hours and I want to keep sleeping. I want to stay in bed where nothing happens to any extremes. I dreamt of lighthouses and the light it casts out over the clear blue gulf sending a signal of safety to those passing by. I wonder about all the things that are like lighthouses to me.…

What drives people to the edge? So far gone that they commit heinous crimes, and become compulsive liars for only their benefit. That’s the question Truman Capote tries to answer in his novel, “In Cold Blood”. Capote analyzes the two killers of the Clutter family, Dick Hickock, and Perry Smith, to inform the audience on who they were and not just what they were. First off, the Clutter’s were a family who lived in the small town of Holcomb Kansas.…

INTRODUCTION/COVER LETTER: The classic novel, "In Cold Blood", is based on a true story about the murder of the Clutter family in Holcomb, Kansas in 1959. The dialog acts as if it was written as a novel, even as a part of the nonfiction genre. It's known as a true crime masterpiece which pricks the psychological and emotional toll that the murder gives the readers, in America's heartland. Svein Atle Skålevåg gives a rhetorical approach to the crime novel, stating that it was a "true account of murder" and that it was also a "work of art".…
