Lewis. How much better of a world would we find ourselves in today if all of the “long terrible story” had never been told? I believe we might feel more joy and less despair in our lives, find comfort everywhere, and embrace unity. 1. Share your observations and impressions of the book and Lewis’s argument. The book "Mere Christianity" by C.S. Lewis offers an insight into the Christian world that I, and many other teenagers and even adults, probably have never even thought about or considered. When first reading the book I was frustrated with C.S. Lewis. The way he explained things made me feel as if he was trying to reach out to me, and any other reader, as if we were completely clueless to Christianity.…

This source claims that in the past utopian societies existed- utopian as a flexible ideal type, rather than a strict definition. It suggest that reading the Hebrew Bible as a utopia reconstructs its historical realities. The author concedes the argument that each reconstruction of reality is only one possible interpretation offered by a member of a non-intended audience and it doesn’t confirm the existence of a utopian society but he strongly grasps to the fact that if the different reconstructions are put together the truth is more likely to be revealed.…

The author states that happiness is nothing else than the enjoyment of the Supreme good and since the supreme good is above us he has to rise above himself by the journey of his heart. But the people aren’t able to rise above themselves unless the superior power raises them. “This divine aid is at hand for all who seek it with a truly humble and devout heart, that is by sighing for it in this vale of tears by fervent prayer” (pg 5). Prayer is a light in which helps the soul recognize the steps of the soul’s journey to God.…

My take on happiness deals more with perspective and the basic goods. Meaning, we live in a world where approximately 3.1 million children die from hunger each year (worldhunger.org). The simple fact that my myself and family do not have to worry about where our next meal is coming from is a blessing which keeps me happy. Therefore, knowing that I’m in a good place in the world and knowing that I have the basic things to survive like food, water, and shelter, keep me happy. One could say that I was lucky to have been born in a country that offers so much.…
