In the documentary film In a Brilliant Light: Van Gogh in Arles, produced by the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 1984, the life of misunderstood artist Vincent van Gogh is depicted, particularly his works done in Arles, France. The film takes the viewer on an in depth journey of van Gogh’s life highlight points such as his inspirations and specific paintings all the while weaving it into the story that is uniquely the artist’s own. Through the introduction of the artist’s inspirations chronologically throughout the film, audience is shown how his style changed greatly over time. The Metropolitan Museum of Art also does a splendid, yet focused job of presenting the information of van Gogh’s life to the audience in short details, while focusing …show more content…
A synopsis of van Gogh is also included where his love of color is included and that is was self-taught. The account of Vincent van Gogh’s life is revealed and told through his paintings and drawings, highlighting his affection for the artistic topic of peasants. Like indicated in the title, van Gogh’s 444 day, productive stay in South France, is highlighted as well as the four thousand and two hundred paints and one hundred drawings completed during his visit extensively.
