OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY
The objectives of this study are:
a) To assess the role of media as the 4th power in the political mass mobilization
b) To know which kind of political messages did the public and government deliver through “Imvaho Nshya”
c) To determine whether what the newspaper reported was factual (realities) or whether it was only a mouth piece of the government, thereby angling the scope of its messages to suit the owners’ interest.
6. SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
This study intends to show how Rwandan government (2003-2008) used “Imvaho Nshya” newspaper to mobilize the masses for political purposes. Due to the “hate media” that characterized Rwanda from 1960s to 1994 genocide against Tutsi, a big number of research papers, articles and reports tend focus on the role of media in the 1994 holocaust by inciting violence and hatred in Rwanda. Some scholars, researchers and academicians also have written about the current state (post genocide) of media in Rwanda, focusing mainly on its development and freedom of expression but few researches have explored how Rwandan media effect politically the population. The findings on how media is used for mass mobilization will therefore be beneficial to all media outlets and
