Improvisat Improvisation

The video that you shared for us to watch, I thought, was extremely intriguing. The two men were remarkably calm and collected and showed no fear at all even though they were improvising a whole song. I found myself smiling thinking about how amazing it would be to do something like that and show no unease in my performance. The articles were also interesting because they explained the science of the fear we have and it gave very sincere discussions from people who deal with fear in many different forms. I thought it was a brave task for Charlie to post a video discussing his fear of not being liked by his viewers, and through his fans he learned that he is not alone. Also the information on the blog “Humans of New York” really opened my eyes to the amount of creativity that is found in everyday life.
To me, a blank slate is a new start. It is moving away from where you are and living in a completely new environment. It is leaving someone who is negative in your life to better yourself and your future. It is like getting the chance to show someone who you can be and not who you are or were. A blank slate is important in society and we face them almost everyday.

Life is a giant improvisation skit. You never know what will happen and how you are supposed to act. Improvisation is when an unplanned event occurs and you must deal with it without a specific plan set in mind. It is very simple when it is subconscious, but for me, the second that I am told I have to stand in front of people and perform a skit where I am in a dentist office trying to avoid letting the doctor work on my teeth, I completely freeze up and get lost in a world of fear. I start babbling about random things, and it just comes across to the audience as fear. Improvisation is something I need to work on so I do not fear it

The overall rhetorical situation discussed in the special event "Question Bridge: Black Males" was the problems associated in the young black male communities and how certain scenarios are not that different, racial wise. This does sound broad, but it does fit the topic appropriately since the volunteers associated with the documentary touched on a lot of topics pertaining to young black male communities like finding that special someone, discussing how drugs and smoking is viewed as, generations begin to differ in appeals, etc. One of the questions brought up in the documentary was "In this era, in this society, do you consider yourself to be free as a human being?" A very interesting question since there will be many appeals towards it;…

In her essay “Why Chinese Mothers Are Superior,” Amy Chua informs the readers of the Chinese way of raising a “stereotypically successful child.” The Chinese childrearing method forbids many activities, including having “playdates” and excelling in drama. Chua’s method is not only extreme but also counterproductive. Firstly, when Chua condescendingly refers to the time a child spends bonding with other children as “playdates,” she is ignoring the vital skill learned through these bonds, these personal connections, which can be advantageous in the professional world.…

In this particular piece, Duke Ellington used layering to give the song an orchestral feel and blended it with improvisations. Duke Ellington used specific techniques when he composed and arranged his music and one of those techniques was voicing across sections. In “Harlem Airshaft”, he uses this technique with the saxophones and the trumpets in the first chorus at 0' 15" and again with the trombones and the saxophones in the third chorus at 1' 35". Voicing across sections and layering instruments was a key characteristic of Duke Ellington’s composing style. The prewritten parts for the band were mixed with the improvisations from the trumpet and clarinet.…

I am a perfectionist. Ever since I was young, my parents have always pressured me to achieve the very best in life. My parents got divorced before I was born and they always told me that I could be anything I wanted as long as it was a better life than the one they had growing up. This has caused my childhood to be plagued with a desire to succeed in everything I do. I get irritated by the idea that I have achieved anything less than a B as a grade or the fact that I am even five minutes late to anything.…
