Improving Team Decision Making

The decisions our team made affected how our team placed in comparison to the other teams in the class. The first day the that simulation began, our team payed close attention to what Dr. Clough was doing and speculated about what his purchases must have been to get his results. This may not have been the most effective way to purchase machines because there was no way to know when his next purchase was going to be. The decisions made were mostly qualitative, and based on prior assumptions. To make decisions easier on the entire group, we decided early on that if a purchase was to be made, consult the group and come to a majority vote. This was implemented as part of our decision making. Because our team was so apprehensive to spend money freely, this made it harder to move up in the overall standing. Our team stayed at number 19 for the majority of the simulation. The most movement was at the beginning of the simulation when the machinery was bought. Because our team was completely random, it was surprising that our decisions were unanimous. Overall our team was on the same page.
Our team faced one particular difficulty during this project. As previously mentioned, we were apprehensive about spending money on machines and

This was mainly due to the structure of how we ran the factory during the simulation. We delegated three people to be in charge of the factory for two days each during the simulation while one person would check on it frequently throughout the whole simulation. This method was particularly successful because during the two day sessions, the designated person had the right to make the final decision on what was best for the factory to continue to run smoothly. Thus, each person was able to have a chance to run the Littlefield simulation and make final decisions while those who weren’t in charge on a given day were available to consult on options such as buying more inventory or more

The simulation connects with civics because there are many problems and situations that need to be solved in modern time like droughts and poverty. One can have an idea of what the government and people need to do to solve a problem or conflict. The simulation made one think about how to solve the draught in the village as if they were in the simulation. It made one understand how the leader, diplomats and villagers need to work together to decide on a way to handle the draught by either building wells or searching for water. It also gave one the idea of how to solve a drought if it were to happen today by gathering the government, diplomats and citizens to carry out the solution.…

What is your team’s approach to completing the project? This project is difficult for anyone to complete in an online class setting such as this. However, this is not because of any task that is assigned for this project, but because this assignment forces us to learn to effectively communicate with each other to complete a common goal. We began communicating early this week regarding what we need to accomplish in order to complete this project, and we have come to a conclusion.…

It is important to note that the measurement of TSA has received far less attention than individual-based SA. In their classic paper, Prince et al. (1997) outlined the importance of measuring TSA. Firstly, in order to move theory beyond the conceptual phase development of psychometric measurement tools is imperative. Secondly, quantifiable indicators of team SA will help in articulating the constituents of good SA.…

At times I felt like I was starting to get the hang of things, then another decision was added. I mean that is life, nothing is simple and there is always another decision to make. I think the challenge of making the decision and seeing what areas were being manipulated because of the choices we were making was interesting. For example, after making all the decision, we would check the score card and see where we went right or wrong and then went back to the areas where the card showed low scores. Although, they were based on the decisions we made and not realistic amongst the competitors decisions, it was still a valid way to see where we stood.…

My strengths in the project were as follow: I was able to research my part of the project efficiently and I found some very useful information, I compiled and refined the paper. My weakness in this team assignment was my impatient with the team’s leader continuous duplicate posting of the same information, but I the end of the day, I had to remind myself that it was her managing style and to bring the project to fruition, I had to overcome my impatience. I believe that I have done this assignment to the best of my abilities and if I could have improve my part of the assignment, it would have to be instead of having done so much research that was not even use in the final project; I should have had research only the key points that was going in the slides. Lesson learned and I now know better for next time. Effectiveness of team meeting written objectives…

In order to solve a certain problem, accurate decisions have to be taken. However, accurate decisions can only be made when the information obtained is appropriate and sufficient which otherwise it can mislead decision makers. For example, as mention in the issue section, in the beginning, participants were only provided with background information and personal objectives of the role. Hence, this causes the whole team to be attached to the personal objectives as it is the initial information received and will lack to adjust to new information (group challenges) that emerge during the first simulation (Furnham & Hua 2010). This is the influence of anchoring effect.…

From the start of this simulation, we understood that we needed to analyze the limited data that was given to us. More specifically, we looked at the mean and standard deviation of demand for the first 50 days of the simulation. We did this by exporting the data from Littlefield into an Excel document and utilizing the AVG and STDEV functions within it. These functions gave us an average demand of 14.52 jobs per day, and a standard deviation of 4.17 jobs per day for the first 50 days. By comparing these numbers we realized that the standard deviation was nearly 30% of the average daily demand.…

Whether you are a part of a social group or on a group project for school or work everyone has the want and need to be included, when group members don’t feel like they have fully been accepted in to the group they can become withdrawn and anti-social which would lead them to not be a contributing part of the team. Having a diverse group of people on a team can help a team more effectively and efficiently reach their common goal. If everyone on the team had the exact same life experiences, was the same age and the same culture they more than likely would have the same general way to approach the group’s common goal. Having diversity on the team can help generate more ideas because everyone’s life experiences and cultural differences have helped form the way they think and the way that they solve problems. Roles, needs and diversity affect a group’s teamwork immensely because if members aren’t performing their specific goal and only focusing on a self-centered role the groups work will either multiply for the other members of the group or the group’s common goal might not be met.…
