Writing has always been one of the most difficult skills that I have been learning through my college career, but it has also been the most important skill because unlike other skills writing affects my works across all courses or subjects. Writing has also helped me to get in to UMD, receive scholarships, and be accepted in research programs. Therefore, all the effort that I have made to improve my writing skill is worth it. From experience, writing is not like other skills that one can learn overnight, for me, writing skill is very slow progress and requires a lot of writing and reading; this is what I got from this class. In this class, my writing has advanced because I am reading more, practicing more, and writing more.…

One of the most important thing I have learned in this course that has positively affected my confidence in my writing skills is the concept of writing a “shitty first draft”. In my midterm self-assessment, I discussed how I thought I was among one of the unlucky ones that was not blessed with natural writing skills. However, through class discussions, I’ve learned that one of the most important competent of professional writing is the need for constant revision. Contrary to popular believe, writing does not come easy to anyone. In order to successfully produce professional writing, it is important that one plan, draft, revise, and edit his or her work.…

Over the course of English 102, I have developed a new set of skills and learned to become a better writer. When I first came into English 102 I struggled with many different concepts of writing. During the semester in English 102, my writing became stronger because I learned how to incorporate evidence into my argument, do more thorough research, have smoother transitions, and have more organization throughout my essay. I learned how to peer review better and to take what others say and incorporate it into my essay. In the beginning, before English 102, I struggled with good organization and flow to an essay, sandwich evidence into paragraphs, and having strong arguments in persuasive essays.…

Throughout English Composition 1, I have learned several crucial writing skills. Writing skills that will benefit me in other classes, outside of school, and during my future college years. Not only will these benefit my overall writing and making it flow better, it will all in all make more sense to the readers. Even though I learned many skills and objectives during this semester, four skills really stood out to me. Cohesion, comma usage, the use of satire, and how to write a definitional essay.…

Reflection: The way my wardobe is structured, and built is ultimately what helps me make my decision when I getting dressed on an everyday basis. As my wardrobe is one with sliding doors, I am not able to see all my clothes sin one glance. This visibly tricks my eye, and reduces my wardrobe into what is described as a capsule wardrobe (see images below for all the outfits I wore this week). This observation reigns true with Sophie Woodward’s take on what the woman’s closet represents in Why Women Wear What They Wear where she states that “The wardrobe reflects and is clearly part of her general sense of order in life; yet, more than this, ordering her clothes helps her get it right when she selects outfits.”…

However, I also noticed that I have difficulty with arguing a position in an essay, describing and using a variety of details, developing a research/writing process plan, providing too much information, and having grammatical errors, such as punctuation errors dealing with commas for the most part. Based on all the writing assignments I completed for this course, I will discuss the main strengths and weaknesses I noticed in my writing that has helped me tremendously for my future of writing. To begin, in the first major writing assignment, I used only a few transition words for each beginning paragraph in my paper, such as also, needless to say, and in conclusion. Although, in the second, third, and even…

Teachers alone are not responsible for changing those acquired individual attributes without the support and influence of their family members and their own willingness to learn. As I believe that education does not just takes place only in schools but also takes place outside the school environment such as their homes and outdoors. The social and cultural practices of the family play a significant role in his or her academic success and degree attainment. Teachers can help you learning, but cannot ensure that each child can acquire knowledge in the same way irrespective of their backgrounds. Curriculum…
