Reflection Before I started taking English Composition 101 I lacked the background of language arts for many years. The last English course I took that had a solid teacher was English II. At the beginning of the semester I had set myself a list of goals to achieve. I expected the goals to enhance my knowledge on how to write certain kinds of papers, as well as, proofread with proficiency. I learned several skills and techniques during this class to help improve my writing skills. I still need to work on my proofreading skills, which will be done with the help of the writing process, so that on the final I can succeed. I often found myself stressing during this course because I was trying to expand my writing ability. When I was trying to expand my writing ability, I found that the process can be very difficult, as well as, frustrating. When the writing is done properly it can change the views of millions. I benefited a lot from The Bedford Guide for College Writers 10th edition textbook. I learnt how to reach out to certain audiences. Proofreading has reflected on my grade in this course. If I could learn how to take my time and not rush through my essay when I’m proofreading, then I could catch a lot of the grammar errors myself. Peer review has helped gain some experience in proofreading because I had to proofread others work. Before I could tell anyone else how to proofread their essay I first had to learn how to proofread. If I would have read page 11 of The Bedford Guide for College Writers 10th edition textbook, then I would have done a better job at editing my essay’s throughout this course. I found out that editing means refining details, improving wording, and correcting flaws that may stand in the way of the understanding of my readers’.
