I indicated that I needed to work on these strategies because I needed to improve on my job as a student. I believe I had the necessary skills to show optimum results in my academic journey but I did not always showcase these skills. My short-term goals were more so of a checklist. This checklist was not always completed either. It was more so something that I could look at and get a better understanding of what needed to be completed. When creating this checklist I would write down a whole bunch of stuff that I needed to do and then get overwhelmed by the amount of work I had to do. This then led me to procrastinate all of my tasks because starting it made me feel like I had to complete the assignment in one sitting. It was very easy to talk myself out of starting my checklist because I would say, “ I don’t have enough time to finish this task.” I rarely thought of the idea to just simply start what I could on each task little by little until the task was fully completed. Micah put off assignments just as I said I did, “Prior to doing the short term goal activity, I would put off big assignments and studying till the last minute.” This is a natural occurrence before establishing short-term goals. When it comes to understanding yourself and your personality on a deeper level than normally, you must take personal stories into perspective that have shaped your life while growing up. According to McAdams, “defining oneself through a personal story is an act of psychological and social responsibility” (Engler 2009). Psychological and social responsibility relate to how you act onto actions around you and how you tie society into your viewpoint of the world. In other words, explaining yourself through a story can show several things such as how your emotions played an affect, the type of response you displayed to something that happened, and as well as the lessons you learned through a personal but also social aspect. In addition, McAdams…

It is basically being in charge of the whole learning experience. At UoPeople I am given that opportunity to be in charge of my own learning. A good example of how I am attempting to change my habits to fix this fault is this essay. I am aiming to complete it before winter break ends, this way it will be done before it is due and I will not have to go into a hurry up offense at the last minute. Along with this new way of planning my tasks, I have also been breaking major tasks down into smaller goals. This way when I look at my list I don’t see one gargantuan task that needs to get done, instead, I see a multitude of small tasks that I can finish at a reasonable…

whether it be cutting out paper for projects, charting all feedings, naps as well as attendance, or stuffing Friday folders to give to the parents, something is getting done. If I want to excel in all aspects of each activity and course I take (I am currently enrolled half time at my university), I have to use each free moment I get to my advantage. In order to dothat, I need to know what needs to be done, and when it needs to be done by WAY before it needs to be done so that I may plan accordingly. It takes these small steps to make ensure that (almost) everything runs as smooth as I am able to make it. That being said, I do, unfortunately, fall short sometimes despite my efforts and a new lesson is learned.…

I believe that this year, I have really improved in accepting my weaknesses and knowing that is okay to ask for assistance. This year proved to be a test to see if I was capable in managing my assignments and activities. Responsibility is another aspect of my academic life that I refined this year. Taking multiple advanced courses served as a test to see how I would manage my time and to see if my work quality would be enhanced.…

Before even entering high school, I made a decision that would ruin the next few years. Looking back, I had no idea it would have impacted me as much as it did, but even now I still wouldn’t have changed that decision. Everything that came after that decision, no matter how difficult, shaped me into who I am today, and I was able to meet some pretty amazing people and do a few things only a handful of people can say they’ve done. In elementary school, I was in the S.C.O.P.E. (Spotsylvania County Program of Enrichment) program, my county’s way of separating out students who they considered gifted and a distraction in the classroom.…

Just like many of my peers, I came to college in order to allow myself a better and more option-filled future to do whatever it is that I decide to set my focus on. However, to obtain the right education and experiences to enable this, goals (both short-term and long-term) must be set. My short-term goals include making A’s in all of my courses this semester, securing an internship for the summer involving animals, and acing all of my chemistry 101 tests. As for my long-term goals, I want to get accepted into veterinary school, maintain a 3.5 or higher GPR as I get my undergraduate degree, and to positively impact others lives with my work.…
