I agree with this statement, but I also feel our job as nurses, is to assess and monitor what one's own perceptions are on what it mean to be healthy. An individual perceives health based on her or his experiences of ill health. This means that a person who has experienced ill health may appreciate health more than a person who has never experienced ill health (Strandmark, 2007). This is extremely useful in the education process of the nursing profession. I feel that the more people understand their own perception of health, the more competent they become in making educated choices to improve their own health.
